5 Days in Paraty: A Slow-Travel Itinerary
Time for the sea, the mountains, the center and a do-nothing day. A 5-day plan for those who prefer to experience Paraty slowly.
With five days, you don't have to rush. You can alternate sea and mountains, save a more distant beach and still keep a day just for the town's rhythm. This is an itinerary for experiencing Paraty slowly.
The day-by-day
- Day 1 — Arrival, historic center at dusk and a caiçara dinner.
- Day 2 — Schooner across the bay: islands, beaches and unhurried snorkeling.
- Day 3 — Mountains: the jeep waterfall circuit and a distillery.
- Day 4 — Trindade or a beach trail, like Praia do Sono.
- Day 5 — Free day: a town beach, a café in the center and last-minute shopping.
Why five days works well
Five days give you margin for the weather: if it rains on a boat day, you simply swap in the mountains or the center, losing nothing. It's the ideal length to really get to know Paraty without the marathon feeling.
A do-nothing day
Don't underestimate the free day. A slow morning, a long lunch, an afternoon on the beach or in a hammock — it's in that breather that many people say they fell for Paraty. Leave room for the unplanned.
