Best Time to Visit Paraty: Weather, Sea & Crowds Month by Month

July 25, 2025 6 min

When the sea is calmest, when it rains least, and when the town fills up. An honest guide to choosing your dates.

Paraty lies in one of Brazil's rainiest regions — the mountains trap the sea's moisture — so no date guarantees blue skies. But you can play the odds. Here's what to expect from each season.

Summer (Dec–Mar): hot, lively and busy

Warm sea, long days and the town at peak energy — but also peak rain and crowds, with higher prices and full boats, especially around New Year and Carnival. Book well ahead.

Autumn & spring (Apr–Jun, Sep–Nov): the sweet spot

For many travelers this is the best window: less rain than summer, a still-pleasant sea, a calm town and lower prices. Trails are less sweaty and boat tours run with smaller groups.

Winter (Jul–Aug): drier and cooler

This is the driest season, with frequently sunny days and great visibility for diving — but nights cool down and the sea gets chillier for swimming. July brings school-holiday crowds; August tends to be quieter.

Bottom line: for the best balance of weather, sea and price, aim for April–June or September–November.
