Festivals & Events in Paraty: The Calendar Worth Planning Around
From the FLIP literary festival to the Cachaça Festival, Paraty has a busy cultural calendar. When they happen and how they affect your trip.
For a small town, Paraty has a surprising cultural life — and some events fill the city to the point of changing the whole experience. It's worth knowing the calendar before you fix your dates, whether to join in or to dodge the crowds.
FLIP — the literary festival
The Paraty International Literary Festival is the town's most famous event: for a few days, usually in July (the dates shift year to year — check the official ones before planning), writers from around the world fill the historic center with talks, debates and parties. It's vibrant — but lodging sells out and prices spike. Book many months ahead.
The Cachaça Festival (Bartolomeu)
Usually in August, the Cachaça Festival celebrates the spirit that gave the town its name, with producers, live music and stalls across the center. It's one of the liveliest moments of the year and pairs well with a visit to the hillside distilleries.
Religious and food festivals
Throughout the year, festivals like the Divino Espírito Santo (May/June) and the Festa de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios bring processions and caiçara traditions. There are also seasonal food festivals — great for travelers who come for the cuisine.
Planning around (or away from) events
If a festival is your goal, book early and expect a packed town. If you prefer calm and good prices, aim for the weeks between the big events — you'll get the same beaches and tours with far more room.
