Paraty in One Day: What to Do If You Only Have 24 Hours

October 23, 2025 5 min

Short on time? You can taste the best of Paraty in a day — a boat trip in the morning and the historic center at dusk. Here's how.

Paraty deserves more than a day — but if a day is all you have, you can still live the essentials: the sea in the morning, caiçara cooking at lunch and the cobblestones in the golden hour. Here's a tight 24-hour plan.

Morning: to the sea

Start early with a boat trip. If time is tight, a shared speedboat covers the bay's main stops in less time than the schooner. Book ahead to lock in the morning departure and enjoy the sea before the afternoon wind.

Lunch: caiçara cooking

Back in the center, have a peixe na grelha or a moqueca at one of the restaurants in the colonial quarter. It's the moment to taste the local food unhurried before exploring the town on foot.

Afternoon and dusk: the historic center

Save late afternoon for the center: the churches, the pé-de-moleque streets and the golden light on the whitewashed houses. Finish with a local-cachaça caipirinha as the town lights come on. If you came from Rio for the day, it's the ideal time to hit the road back.
