The Best Photography Spots in Paraty

December 15, 2025 5 min

Cobblestone streets, a church at the water's edge and the bay in golden hour. Where and when to take the best photos of Paraty.

Few places in Brazil photograph as well as Paraty: the white houses, the blue of the bay and the tropical light make ready-made compositions. Here are the spots worth the camera — and the best time for each.

Santa Rita church

The little white church at the water's edge is Paraty's signature shot. Shoot early morning, with high tide reflecting the façade, or late afternoon, when the golden light hits it head-on. Avoid midday's harsh light.

The cobblestone streets and the tide

The pé-de-moleque streets make great shots with vanishing-point perspective and colorful doors. At full moon, the tide floods the quarter and creates perfect reflections — the "mirror city" effect. Check the tide table to nail the timing.

The bay and golden hour

From a boat deck or the center's pier, sunset over the islands is a must. On a tour, ask the skipper to stop for a golden-hour photo — the backlight on the islands is cinematic. Bring a cloth to protect the lens from the sea spray.
