Trindade: The Beach Village South of Paraty

August 16, 2025 6 min

Wide beaches, the Cachadaço natural pool and a laid-back fishing-and-surf-village mood. How to visit, 25 km from Paraty.

About 25 km south of the center, Trindade is the laid-back counterpoint to Paraty's colonial townscape: a fishing village turned surfer-and-backpacker hangout, wedged between the Serra do Mar and some of the loveliest beaches on the Costa Verde. It's a full-day trip worth every bend in the road.

The beaches

  • Praia do Meio — the main one: wide, busy, with kiosks and calm water.
  • Praia do Cepilho — the surfers' favorite, with stronger waves.
  • Praia Brava — quieter, reached by a short forest trail.
  • Praia do Cachadaço — small and rock-ringed, the gateway to the natural pool.

The Cachadaço natural pool

Trindade's signature image is the Cachadaço natural pool: a cove ringed by rocks, with crystal-clear water and shoals of fish — perfect for snorkeling. You reach it by a short trail from Praia do Cachadaço. Go early to beat the midday crowds.

How to get there and when to go

The road from Paraty to Trindade takes about 40 minutes and ends in a winding descent with sea views. Avoid peak-season weekends, when the village fills up and parking gets tight. Non-holiday weekdays are ideal — more room on the beaches and in the natural pool.
